Broken Link Checker: find dead links on a page or small site
Give it a page, a small site or a list of URLs. It checks each link once and returns one result row per link: the verdict, the HTTP status, the reason, where a redirect ends and the page the link was found on.
Fewer false alarms
- A link that fails a HEAD request is checked again with GET before it is called broken, because many servers answer HEAD wrongly.
- A bot-protected link (401, 403, 429, 999 or a challenge page) is marked
blocked: the site refused an automated check, so its status is unknown. The actor does not try to get past the block, and a blocked link is not counted as broken. - robots.txt is read for every host; a link it disallows is marked
blockedand not requested.
What it does
- Three modes: the links on the pages you list, a same-site crawl (up to the page limit you set), or just the URLs you list.
- Redirects are followed by hand and reported with a permanent or temporary flag and the final address.
- Verdicts: ok, redirect, broken, blocked, timeout, refused, skipped. A bad link, a dead host or an unreadable start page becomes a row and the run still finishes.
- Caps so a run cannot surprise you: up to 10 page or link URLs per run, 200 links by default (2,000 at most), and a run time budget. Localhost and private addresses are refused.
- Callable by AI assistants through Apify's MCP server.
Try it
Up to 10 URLs per run. Open the actor on the Apify Store: the default input is a short public page, so one click on Start returns a table of links with their verdicts.
Good to know
This checker has no sitemap mode yet. A site that blocks automated requests shows more blocked rows; those need a manual look. Results are a snapshot: a server that is down for a minute can show as a timeout.
Price
Free for now. The planned price is US$1.50 per 1,000 links checked (US$0.0015 per link) once pay-per-event is switched on; only links with a confirmed ok, redirect or broken verdict would be charged, never blocked, timeout, refused or skipped ones. Apify platform usage is billed to your own Apify account. Set the link cap low for a first test.
